Women in Medicine
We are celebrating the incredible women in the Department of Medicine who are champions for the wellness of others. To see the wide range of work across divisions to support well-being and career development is impressive. Their work inspires us and we are grateful for all they do on behalf of their colleagues.
Sherri-Ann Burnett-Bowie, MD, MPH
Division of Endocrinology
Chairs the DOM’s Diversity and Inclusion Board, which supports and expands equity and inclusion efforts within the DOM. Leads the Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) Working Group which concentrates on issues central to URiM trainee and faculty success in the department.
Division of Hematology/Oncology
Member of the CfPWB Building Community Working Group which is focused on growing initiatives bringing together faculty throughout the DOM to support well-being. Alongside Dr. Gaby Hobbs and Dr. Kerry Reynolds, Dr. Comander hosted a “PRIORITIZING YOU IN 2022” series focused on women physician well-being. Also, manages the Women in Oncology Peloton Group.
Division of Endocrinology
Director of the DOM Parental Wellness Group. This program supports new parents via individualized coaching, virtual parenting groups, lactation supports and other parenting-related well-being resources. Dr. Dichtel is the PI of a Phoenix Grant to support this work and is also a member of the CfPWB Building Community Working Group.
Division of Hematology/Oncology
Leads the Women in Oncology Group that aims at developing a sense of belonging across the Cancer Centers, fostering support and community among women clinicians in Oncology. Also, recipient of Uplift Grants to support her work.
Division of General Internal Medicine
Founded the DOM Center for Physician Well-Being in 2019 and leads the Center in its efforts to foster well-being for clinicians through coaching programs, well-being grants, and various events/initiatives. Leads the MGPO Physician Coaching Pilot Program and the Physician Coaching Programs for trainees at MGH.
Division of Hematology/Oncology
As part of the “We Heard You! Listening Sessions Action Group”, helps with making recommendations on how we can take action from what was shared in listening sessions across the DOM since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, one of our faculty coaches.
Division of Nephrology
Runs the Parents of Little Kids Group, creating events that allow physicians to connect with colleagues, encourage friendships, and grow as a community while spending time with families. Also, Member of CfPWB Building Community Working Group.
Division of General Internal Medicine
Directs the Happiness Committee, the well-being initiative of the MGH Hospital Medicine Unit. Founded Stories of the MGH, a hospital-wide storytelling series where hospital staff share their real-life experiences in live events and online. Organizes the Boston Hope Music Teaching Project, which matches MGH healthcare workers to professional musicians at the New England Conservatory to build creative relationships based on trauma-informed care. Also, Member of the CfPWB Building Community Working Group.
Division of Cardiology
Leads the Supportive Workplace Task Force which identifies areas for improvement and next steps in the DOM, communicating back with groups, reviewing responses, and developing recommendations to help with transitions in careers and retention. Co-directs the Women in Medicine Trainee Council.
